Meet the Chair Families of Interlaken’s 60th!

Written by Melissa Mesa, Program Director of Interlaken’s 60th

As we prepare for Interlaken’s 60th Celebration, we are excited to introduce you to the incredible individuals who will be guiding you through the experience – our amazing chair families!

These talented and passionate individuals are the backbone of the event, ensuring everything runs smoothly and that all of our guests feel welcomed and engaged. Whether they’re helping you find your way around, bringing camp back to life, or creating a warm and friendly atmosphere, our hosts will be there every step of the way to make sure you have a memorable experience.

Our chair families have volunteered many hours and have a shared commitment to making this event a success. Here’s a sneak peek at the faces behind the scenes:

  • The Barnett Family: Nancy and Jim sent their kids to camp after hearing how wonderful CIL was from their friends, the Pearsons. Joey and Ricky attended and worked at camp from 1999-2006. Joey performed a talent show act with his now-wife, Ashley Reuven, at camp in 2005. While David and his wife, Melissa, didn’t attend as campers, they have experienced family camp with their children and have already passed the tradition on to the next generation.
  • The Carneol Family: Lifelong “camp people,” Allan and Sue have become some of Camp Interlaken’s biggest fans! Sue served on the camp committee from 2004-2008. Their children followed in their footsteps, with all three attending camp and later joining the team of staff: Deb Carneol Fendrich (1999-2011), Haley Lerner (2001-2014), and Sam Carneol (2003-2014). Deb and Haley are now legacy donors and look forward to sending their own children to camp one day.
  • The Seder Rosen Family: Diane Seder Rosen and Bruce Rosen loved their Jewish camp experiences growing up and knew they wanted the same for their children. They chose Interlaken and never looked back! Ilana (camper and staff from 1996-2005), Sophie (camper and staff from 1997-2011), and Eli (camper and staff from 1999-2001) are all eagerly awaiting the day they can become camp parents themselves.
  • The Sadoff Family: Bryan was a camper from 1974-1979 and couldn’t wait for his kids to experience Interlaken. From 2004-2006, he, his wife Alicia, and their sons, Brad and Adam, attended family camp. Brad and Adam continued the tradition as campers and staff, with Brad attending from 2005-2018 and Adam attending from 2008-2020. Bryan, camp’s immediate past Committee Chair, now serves on the JCC Board of Directors.
  • The Winter Family: Sylvia was among the first campers in 1966 and later joined the staff in 1970 and 1971. When her son David was old enough, she and her husband Michael attended family camp from 1991-1997. Sylvia has served on the camp committee since 1991, including a decade as chair (2000-2010). David was a camper (1995-2003) and staff member (2004-2008). He met Drea, a fellow “camp person” who attended, staffed, and even served as the director of her childhood camp. Now, Drea is excited to discover for herself what makes Interlaken so special!

Together, these chairs embody the spirit of our event – welcoming, knowledgeable, and committed to delivering an outstanding experience for every participant. They are ready to ensure you have everything you need, from answering your questions to providing guidance on how to make the most of your time at Interlaken.

We are incredibly grateful for their dedication and look forward to seeing how they will help create an unforgettable experience for all attendees. Keep an eye out for these friendly faces throughout the event – you’ll definitely want to say hello!

We can’t wait to see you there!
